Happy Monday everyone!

This morning I took Macchia for a walk in the woods and up to Valicella. 

Stamattina ho portato Macchia a fare una passeggiata nel bosco fino a Valicella.

The cows are in the field. 

Le mucche sono nel prato.

The rocks are on top of each other. 

Le rocce sono una sopra l'altra.

Macchia is in the middle of the road. 

Macchia è in mezzo della strada.

The trees are glowing in the sunlight.

Gli alberi splendono nella luce del sole.

Valicella in the shade. 

Valicella all'ombra.

The grass is covered in frost.

L'erba è ricoperta di brina.

Macchia likes to run fast. 

A Macchia piace correre veloce.

The road back towards Odecla. 

La strada del ritorno verso Odecla.

I love my life here. 

Amo la mia vita qui.

Just some Saturday evening thoughts

The day after I arrived here in Malonno last year for my au pair experience I set out to go for a walk in the woods and somehow got lost whilst also managing to fall over running uphill... In the end I made it out of the woods stumbled into the road, came across a sign for Malonno and took a picture.

Il giorno dopo sono arrivata qui a Malonno l'anno scorso per la mia esperienza au pair, ho deciso di fare una passeggiata nel bosco e in qualche modo mi sono persa riuscendo anche a cadere correndo in salita ... Alla fine sono uscita dal bosco ho trovato un cartello per Malonno e ho fatto una foto.

So much has changed since I took that first pic but today I took another just to remind myself of how far I've come and that getting lost every once in a while isn't a bad thing. In fact it's the getting lost, falling down, setbacks & hardships that help to write a more interesting story.

Sono cambiate tante cose da quando ho scattato la prima foto, ma oggi ne ho scattata un'altra solo per ricordare a me stessa quanto sono arrivata  lontano e che perdersi ogni tanto non è una brutta cosa. In effetti, sono lo smarrirsi, il cadere, le battute d'arresto e le difficoltà che aiutano a scrivere una storia più interessante.

I may be that same timid, slightly naive girl from Wales who stumbled uphill in the woods last summer but I've fallen over and picked myself back up many many many times since then & every day living here in Malonno, my dream home surrounded by the mountains makes me want to do better, to be better.

Potrei essere la stessa ragazza timida e un po' ingenua del Galles che è inciampata in salita nei boschi la scorsa estate, ma sono caduta e mi sono rialzata molte, molte volte da allora e ogni giorno vivo qui a Malonno, la mia casa dei sogni in montagna mi fa venire voglia di fare di meglio, di essere migliore.

The ups & the downs - grateful for it all. It makes me smile to think the best is yet to come because right now life feels pretty damn good.

Gli alti e bassi - grata per tutto questo. Mi fa sorridere pensare che il meglio deve ancora venire perché in questo momento la vita è dannatamente bella.

La mia curva preferita...

Maybe I am a bit crazy but I have a favourite bend here in Malonno. 

Forse sono un po' matta ma ho una curva preferita qui a Malonno.

This is it! È questa!

Last year when I stayed in Malonno for my au pair experience with Guido, Paola and their children at Sim Informatica, every morning I would get up and go for a run or on the bike. 

L'anno scorso, quando sono stata a Malonno per la mia esperienza (au pair) con Guido, Paola e i loro figli alla Sim Informatica, ogni mattina mi alzavo e andavo a correre o in bici.

On these mornings when I went on the bike, I would ride up the road by Cornola and then take the road towards Loritto. 

In queste mattine, quando andavo in bici, salivo la strada per Cornola e poi prendevo la strada per Loritto.

It was during these mornings that I discovered my favourite bend. It is hard to describe exactly why it is my favourite... but I love it because you can see the beautiful panorama of the mountains. Especially on the downhill. 

È stato durante queste mattine che ho scoperto la mia curva preferita. È difficile descrivere esattamente perché è la mia preferita ... ma lo adoro perché puoi vedere il bellissimo panorama delle montagne. Soprattutto in discesa.

Storytime with Macchia 🐶

I'm very lucky because the sun always shines on my house for most of the day.  

Sono molto fortunata perché il sole splende sempre sulla mia casa per la maggior parte della giornata.

The sun shines through the two big windows and makes the living room nice and warm. 

Il sole filtra dalle due grandi finestre e rende il soggiorno piacevole e caldo.

After lunch, I like to sit in the sunshine and read my book. 

Dopo pranzo, mi piace sedermi al sole e leggere il mio libro. 

Today I sat outside on the steps in the sunshine to read and Macchia kept me company!

Oggi mi sono seduta fuori sui gradini al sole a leggere e Macchia mi ha tenuto compagnia!

Welsh Cakes 😋

Today I will share with you all a recipe for a traditional type of cake from Wales - Welsh Cakes.

Oggi condividerò con tutti voi una ricetta per una torta tradizionale del Galles - Welsh Cakes.

Ingredients:

225g plain flour    225 g di farina 00

85g caster sugar    85g di zucchero semolato

1/2 tsp mixed spice    1/2 cucchiaino di spezie miste

1/2 tsp baking powder    1/2 cucchiaino di lievito in polvere

100g butter, cut into small pieces    100 g di burro, tagliato a pezzetti

50g raisins    50g di uvetta

1 egg, beaten     1 uovo, sbattuto

splash of milk    spruzzata di latte

Method:

Part 1 : Tip the flour, sugar, mixed spice, baking powder and a pinch of salt into a bowl. Then, with your fingers, rub in the butter until crumbly. Mix in the currants. Work the egg into the mixture until you have soft dough, adding a splash of milk if it seems a little dry - it should be the same consistency as shortcrust pastry.

Parte 1: versa la farina, lo zucchero, le spezie miste, il lievito e un pizzico di sale in una ciotola. Poi, con le dita, strofinare il burro fino a renderlo friabile. Mescolare l'uvetta. Lavorare l'uovo nel composto fino ad ottenere un impasto morbido, aggiungendo una spruzzata di latte se sembra un po 'asciutto - dovrebbe avere la stessa consistenza della pasta frolla.

Part 2 : Roll out the dough on a lightly floured work surface to the thickness of your little finger. Cut out circles using a 6cm cutter, re-rolling any trimmings. Grease a frying pan with butter, and place over a medium heat. Cook the Welsh Cakes, for about 3 mins each side, until golden brown, crisp and cooked through. 

Parte 2 : Stendete la pasta su un piano di lavoro leggermente infarinato fino allo spessore del vostro mignolo. Ritaglia i cerchi con un cutter da 6 cm, arrotolando nuovamente i ritagli. Ungere una padella con il burro e mettere a fuoco medio. Cuocere le Welsh Cakes per circa 3 minuti per lato, finché non diventano dorate, croccanti e ben cotte.

Piz Tri (again!)

Another day, another time to the summit of Piz Tri. I'm not crazy, I promise!

Un altro giorno, un'altra volta in Piz Tri. Non sono pazza, lo prometto!

Today I took the paths through the woods towards Lezza and then to Vent. 

Oggi ho preso i sentieri nel bosco verso Lezza e poi verso Vent.

From Vent, I passed by the two small lakes and then made my way to the summit.

Da Vent, sono passata vicino ai due laghetti e poi mi sono diretta verso la cima.

I arrived at the summit of Piz Tri at about 10:40am. There was a lot less snow today compared to Saturday. 

Sono arrivata in cima verso le 10:40. Oggi c'era molta meno neve rispetto a sabato.

This made the downhill a lot easier, and I ran back down in time for a big bowl of pasta for lunch!

Questo ha reso la discesa molto più facile e sono tornata giù in tempo per una grande ciotola di pasta per pranzo!

Eat pasta, run fasta? - Yes!

Ti piacciono le castagne?

A year ago, when I first moved here I had never eaten a chestnut before... Now I love them!

Un anno fa, quando mi sono trasferita qui per la prima volta, non avevo mai mangiato una castagna... Adesso le amo!

This Autumn I've been enjoying collecting the chestnuts from the woods here in Malonno. Last year I wasn't very enthusiastic about it, but now I love to fill up a bag with chestnuts and to bring them home ready to roast on the fire outside with John. 

Quest'autunno mi sono divertita a raccogliere le castagne dal bosco qui a Malonno. L'anno scorso non ne ero molto entusiasta, ma ora adoro riempire un sacchetto di castagne e portarle a casa pronte da cuocere sul fuoco fuori con John.

But now it's almost the end of November, so there aren't many (or any) left to collect. 😥

Ma ora è quasi la fine di novembre, quindi non ce ne sono molte da raccolgliere. 😥

But I can't complain, I've eaten plenty of chestnuts this year! 

Ma non posso lamentarmi, quest'anno ho mangiato tantissime castagne!

This evening myself and John roasted the final pan of chestnuts on the fire outside. 

Stasera io e John abbiamo arrostito l'ultima padella di castagne sul fuoco fuori.

As usual, Macchia was there to help too!

Come di solito, Macchia era anche lì per aiutare!

I love how chestnuts are part of the tradition here. When I eat chestnuts, it makes me feel part of the community even more. 

Adoro come le castagne fanno parte della tradizione qui. Quando mangio le castagne mi fa sentire ancora di più parte della comunità.

We are Malonnesi and we eat chesnuts! 😉

Noi, ci siamo Malonnesi e noi mangiamo le castagne! (o mundine!) 😉

Early Morning Footsteps

Monday morning. The start of a new day. A new week. How did you start your day?

Lunedi mattina. L'inizio di un nuovo giorno. Una nuova settimana. Come hai iniziato la tua giornata?

I woke up just before 7am. I opened the shutters of my bedroom window and saw a lovely pink sky. It was time to go for a run!

Mi sono svegliata poco prima delle 7 del mattino. Ho aperto le persiane della finestra della mia camera e ho visto un bel cielo rosa. Era ora di andare a correre!

I fed Dragon, drank a glass of water and then put on my trainers and left the house.

Ho dato da mangiare a Dragon, ho bevuto un bicchiere d'acqua e poi ho indossato le scarpe da ginnastica e sono uscita di casa.

I love to run first thing in the morning. It's a great way to start the day and to wake up. 

Amo correre per prima cosa al mattino. È un ottimo modo per iniziare la giornata e svegliarsi.

When I arrive back home afterwards, I feel satisfied and  hungry for breakfast. 

Quando torno a casa dopo, mi sento soddisfatta e ho fame, pronta per fare colazione.

Easy like Sunday Morning

This morning, I woke up after a blissful nine hours of sleep to the sound of Dragon meowing. 

Stamattina, mi sono svegliata dopo nove ore di sonno beato al suono del miagolio di Dragon.

He was obviously hungry, it was breakfast time! 

Era ovviamente affamato, era ora di colazione!

I gave Dragon some food and some milk and then I started my day with some yoga. Dragon tried to join in, by climbing up my leg but he didn't get very far! 

Ho dato a Dragon del cibo e del latte e poi ho iniziato la mia giornata con dello yoga. Dragon ha cercato di unirsi, arrampicandosi sulla mia gamba ma non è andato molto lontano!

After I had eaten my breakfast, Dragon fell back asleep and I played the piano. Today no, I'm not going to Piz Tri!

Dopo aver fatto colazione, Dragon si è riaddormentato e io ho suonato il pianoforte. Oggi no, non vado in Piz Tri! 

Today I don't run, but I did some strength exercises at home and then took Macchia for a walk in the sunshine. 

Oggi io non corro, ma ho fatto alcuni esercizi di forza a casa e poi ho portato Macchia a fare due passi al sole.

With the sun on my face and the sound of the church bells ringing out for mass, it did really feel like an easy Sunday morning. I hope you can all see why I enjoy my life here so much!

Con il sole sul viso e il suono delle campane della chiesa per la messa, sembrava davvero una tranquilla domenica mattina. Spero che possiate tutti capire perché mi godo così tanto la mia vita qui!

Sleeping Dragons!

Saturday Morning...

Me this morning : "Today I won't go to PizTri... I'll stay a bit closer to home and go for walk in the woods" 

Me two hours later : "Here I am again, on the summit of PizTri. How did that happen!?"

Io stamattina: "Oggi non vado in PizTri ... starò un po' più vicino a casa e vado a fare una passeggiata nel bosco"

Io due ore dopo: "Eccomi di nuovo in PizTri. Come è successo!?"

And so yes, this morning I found myself again at the summit of our home mountain. I sat down near the cross and admired the spectacular view around me. 

E quindi sì, questa mattina mi sono trovata di nuovo in cima della nostra montagna di casa. Mi sono seduta vicino alla croce e ho ammirato la vista spettacolare intorno a me.

Suddenly I noticed someone running up the path. It was Luca Malgarida, and then his brother Marco. They had run from Malonno. 

All'improvviso ho notato qualcuno che corre sul sentiero. Era Luca Malgarida, e poi suo fratello ,Marco.

We ran back down to Malonno together. Thank you Luca and Marco for the company!

Abbiamo corso fino a Malonno insieme. Grazie Luca e Marco per la compagnia!

I arrived back home to find Dragon waiting for me. 

Sono tornata a casa e ho trovato Dragon che mi aspettava.

Dragon met my father through Skype. 

Dragon ha incontrato mio padre su Skype.

Maybe next time I will take Dragon with me in my rucksack to the top of Piz Tri... what do you think? 😜

Forse la prossima volta porterò Dragon con me nello zaino in cima al Piz Tri ... che ne pensate?

Happy Friday!

Hello everyone! Happy Friday! 

After my morning run and after I had eaten breakfast, I went to the supermarket near my house to buy a few few things. 

Ciao a tutti! Buon venerdì!

Dopo la mia corsa mattutina e dopo aver fatto colazione, sono andata al supermercato vicino a casa mia per comprare alcune cose.

Do you know the name for any of these items in English?

I bought a litre of milk, half a dozen eggs, some tomatoes, two yoghurts, a bag of pasta, some mozzarella cheese, two courgettes, green tea and two packets of dried apricots. 

Ho comprato un litro di latte, mezza dozzina di uova, alcuni pomodori, due yogurt, un sacchetto di pasta, mozzarella, due zucchine, tè verde e due pacchetti di albicocche secche.

I paid twelve euros and fifty-five cents. 

Ho pagato dodici euro e cinquantacinque centesimi.

Did you go to the shop to buy some food today? What did you buy?

Sei andato a fare la spesa oggi? Cosa hai comprato?

Before lunch, I took Macchia for a walk in the woods. Today it is another beautiful sunny November day... But did you hear the strong wind yesterday evening!?👀

Prima di pranzo, ho portato Macchia a fare due passi nel bosco. Oggi è un' altra bella giornata di sole di novembre ... Ma ieri sera avete sentito il vento forte!? 👀

Writing in the sunshine

This evening a new friend arrived at Via Stretta Canali... Dragon the kitten. Look how cute he is! 😍 I'm sure I will write about him some more soon. I hope he and Macchia will become friends!

Stasera in Via Stretta Canali è arrivato un nuovo amico ... il gattino Dragon. Guarda com'è carino! Sono sicura che presto scriverò di lui ancora un po'. Spero che lui e Macchia diventino amici!

I would like you all to meet my friend Macchia. She belongs to my neighbour John, but she likes to spend a lot of time in my house asleep! 

Vorrei farvi conoscere la mia amica Macchia. Appartiene al mio vicino di casa John, ma le piace passare molto tempo a casa mia addormentata!

Macchia is tired!

I usually take Macchia out for a walk in the morning. Today we arrived at the church as the church bells chimed for 10am. 

Di solito porto Macchia a fare una passeggiata al mattino. Oggi siamo arrivate alla chiesa mentre le campane della chiesa hanno suonato per le 10 del mattino.

It's 10 o'clock / sono le 10

Macchia is smiling! / Macchia sorride!

We then walked along the footpath in the woods. Macchia loves to run around and find new smells and new things to see. 

Abbiamo camminato sui sentiero nel bosco. Macchia ama correre e trovare nuovi odori e nuove cose da vedere.

Today Macchia made friends with a donkey! 

Oggi Macchia ha fatto amicizia con un asino!

Near Odecla, we found some kiwis that someone had just picked from the trees. 

Vicino a Odecla abbiamo trovato dei kiwi che qualcuno aveva appena raccolto dagli alberi.

What a beautiful day!

Piz Tri!!!

Piz Tri - how lucky we are to call this our home mountain! Here I am again, the third time in eight days. I just can't resist. I feel like I could touch the blue sky from up here. It makes the effort worth it every time.

There is a little bit of snow twinkling in the sunlight, but it feels like summer. I could almost sunbathe on the rocks! 

I eat a few chestnuts and drink some water and then I get ready to run back down to Malonno. How happy I feel to be able to run and enjoy my life here in these mountains

Piz Tri - quanto siamo fortunati di chiamarla la nostra montagna di casa! Eccomi di nuovo qui, la terza volta in otto giorni. Non riesco proprio a resistere. Mi sento come se potessi toccare il cielo blu da quassù. Ne vale la pena ogni volta.

C'è un po' di neve che brilla nella luce del sole, ma sembra estate. Potrei quasi prendere il sole sulla roccia.

Mangio delle castagne e bevo un po' di acqua e poi mi preparo per tornare fino a Malonno a corsa. Quanto mi sento felice di poter correre e godermi la vita qui in queste montagne.
